How many people do you know who are not born in Canada? If you have lived in Toronto for any length of time you will have encountered people from many nations. It’s been reported that more than 50% of those living in Toronto are born in a country other than Canada – that’s one out of every two people! What are the opportunities of living in such a place? Or the challenges? This Sunday is called the day of Pentecost. It is one of the traditional Jewish holidays that also marked the beginning of the church 2,000 years ago when God poured out the Holy Spirit on people “from every nation under heaven.” What can this historic special day teach us about God’s purposes when distinct people groups live together in one place?
