There is a popular saying that goes something like this: “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never harm me.” Neuroscientists may want to disagree. Using an MRI to study the brain, they have found that negative words can actually change the functioning of the brain. Even flashing the word ‘no’ for less than one second can stimulate a sudden release of stress-producing hormones and neurotransmitters. Repetitive use of negatives words seems to affect decision making centers in the frontal lobe. So much of our lives revolve around words…they have the power to draw people near or to push them away; to encourage and uplift or to put them down. People who heard Jesus speak remarked that they never heard someone speak quite like him. What was it that Jesus did with words that we need to know now that could change our lives, at work, or anywhere else for that matter. Listen and be uplifted as we continue our series on Faith at Work with special guest speaker, Bill Hogg from C2C Network.
