Renowned English essayist and writer Dorothy Sayers stated so eloquently that work is “the gracious expression of creative energy in service of others.” Sounds great, but on the other hand, as country great Dolly Parton says in her popular song, “Working nine to five, what a way to make a living barely getting by, it’s all taking and no giving…” So who’s right and how do we bridge the gap between the ideal and the real when it comes to our work?
