“What’s new?” This is a common greeting among friends or acquiantances who have not seen each other for awhile. How would you respond to such a greeting? Would you be searching for something to say? Or, would you come back with a reply like, “Oh, same old, same old, you know.” Most of us like new things. We like the smell of a new car; we like new houses ready to be filled with new memories; we are happy about getting a new job; we anticipate the arrival of a new baby. For many, the coming of a New Year fills us with hope for a new start – maybe a time to put the past behind us and begin anew. How can we continue the spirit of Christmas as we start a New Year? The Christmas story gives us a clue; we learned that Christ came to create all things anew! In the Bible it says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.” [2 Cor. 5:17]. This Sunday – the last Sunday before the New Year – we will be joining our sister church in Mississauga* for a celebration of all things new. We look forward to seeing you there, and welcoming friends and family.
